More women running in their Local Government elections in PNG. A starting ground for them to then move on to national government elections.

The National Capital District Council of women is way ahead of other provinces in conducting its Ward Elections.

This is according to NCD Council of Women president, Maria Andrew.

She made these and other comments, at the start of the ward eleven elections in Port Moresby’s North West Electorate, today.

Close to a thousand women turned up at the a temporary polling venue at the Waigani fire station, to cast their votes in what is believed to be the nation’s first ever female elections to elect their Ward Executives.

Elections for Port Moresby North East were successfully completed last week.

The same concept to have women leaders elected to represent other wards in all provinces was a concept the PNG Council of Women developed in a recent meeting held in Mt Hagen.

Elections for ward twelve, which covers the suburbs of Rainbow to Gerehu, areas will be conducted at Gerehu market tomorrow.
