RAROTONGA (RNZI) —- A new Cook Islands MP says she wants to get on with re-uniting her village now a petition challenging her Titikaveka by-election win has been dropped.

Cook Islands Party candidate Teariki Matenga last week withdrew the petition he brought against his sister, Selina Napa, who won the by-election for the opposition Democratic Party.

The challenge made allegations of corruption, bribery and cheating during the campaign. Napa said when results are so close petitions are common. She said she will do what she can to heal the rift with her brother but her immediate aim is to reunite the village.

“To regroup and right now for us here in the Cook Islands it is our constitution celebrations Te Maeva Nui celebrations, so it is happy times for everyone in the Cook Islands, meeting families from the outer islands and that, so first and foremost it is actually to bring the whole village together and move forward with things that we want done in the village…..PACNEWS (PINA)
