PEOPLE of Eastern Highlands especially in the Unggai Bena district have congratulated Julie Akeke Soso for defeating Mal Smith for the Eastern Highlands Provincial seat. Spokesman Fred Sabumei yesterday sent a statement on behalf of the people of Unggai Bena commending the people of Eastern Highlands for having confidence and mandating her to be their elected Governor.
“In this male-dominated place, you have proven to the people of Eastern Highlands and PNG that women can also win against men. The win is for all women in EHP,” Mr Sabumei said.

Mr Sabumei also called on the wining candidates in Eastern Highlands Province not to rush into the national office but take time to look into the affairs of their provincial office. “We must look into the following areas, all the Provincial Executive Council dealings (PEC), all Provincial Tenders Boards awarding of contacts (EHPTB), awarding of Land by Provincial Land Board (PLB), Provincial Planning Board (PPB), Provincial Education Board (PEB), awarding contracts for GorokaHospital by Provincial Health Board (PHB), Appointment of all senior Public Servant (Provincial Administrator, two deputies and all advisors), All Local Level Government Councils in the Districts and audit and check Nokondi Group of Business(Business Arm of EHPG),” he said.  “The senior public servants must be held responsible for not delivering services to the people and they did not promote or support small business man and woman of Eastern Highlanders.” Mr Sabumei has called on all newly elected members of Eastern Highlander to believe in themselves adding that the time has come for a change.
