Hon. Afamasaga Leone Mati Masame entered Parliament in 2025 after winning the Aana Alofi 4 constituency with a decisive lead over four male candidates, marking her emergence as one of the standout women candidates in that election cycle. Her victory contributed to the strengthening of women’s representation in Samoa’s Legislative Assembly and reflected a strong mandate from her constituency.
Following the general election, she achieved a historic milestone when she was appointed Deputy Speaker of the House, becoming the first woman in Samoa to hold this high-ranking parliamentary position. Her appointment was widely acknowledged as a significant step forward for women in political leadership and showcased the growing influence of female leaders within the Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party, under which she serves.
